Recognising and dealing with drugs in the workplace

Working as an employee for any organisation can cause periods of stress and uncertainty. Many individuals view their personal lives as separate from the workplace. Many individuals use drugs and/or alcohol recreationally without difficulty. However, the damaging effects to the body can go undetected for many years. Other people may turn to drugs or alcohol for short periods of time to overcome distressing episodes in their life, but recover and return to normality and work as efficiently as before. During difficult times most individuals are not aware of how their substance misuse can be affecting others around them or how their company can be a source of support.

This one day training course is designed to increase the awareness of your employees in the following areas:

Aims:

  • To recognise what drugs look like
  • Length of detectability of drug and alcohol use
  • Drugs and the law
  • To recognise signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol use
  • How to effectively challenge a colleague and bring it to the attention of Management
    Treatment and support services
  • Your roles and responsibilities and the importance of a company drug and alcohol policy

Course Learning Outcomes

By the end of the day delegates will be able to:

  • Recognise drugs and drug use in the workplace
  • Feel confident and competent in responding to drug misuse appropriately
  • Understand and implement a drug and alcohol policy

Who should attend?
Individuals who have an interest in the health and safety of their workplace and would like to increase their understanding of the effects that drugs and alcohol can have on the individual and their performance.
